In olden times the people lived very differently to now. They had not the same implements for working as the farmers have now.

The usual crops they sowed in my village long ago were potatoes, oats, wheat and barley. They still sow a lot of oats and potatoes and barley, but they do not sow as much wheat now as long ago.

The most of the work used to be done with spades but now all most all the work is done with horses. Even the potatoes are mostly dug now, by horses and ploughs.

They used to sow flax in my village long ago and a great many people had flax wheels. In a few houses in my village still there are quilts made of flax. They are very common now.
