  • Correction to page 40 of the Heritage Trail booklet as there was no Steed family in Cloonaghgarve until the mid 20th century. William Steed of Lurgan, Doonbally, Co. Galway, (otherwise Lurgan [east], in Dunmore Parish) should be correctly identified as the maker of these stone crosses at Addergoole Graveyard. Born approx. 1890’s, his house was no. 6 on the 1911 Census record and later, the residence of the late Martin Burke. There are several other similar styled examples of his work in Kilcloony Graveyard, too. Oral tradition says that he was allegedly stopped in the continuation of his work by the Co. Council as the high crosses he made, were too large/high/dangerous when erected. – R.M. Cloonaghgarve. 30/08/16.
