Education and Outreach Programme 2019

It was lovely to see the McGarry family featuring on page 40 of the museum’s 2019 Education and Outreach programme. It is important to our heritage group that we write unwritten stories of people who made important contributions to our community. We were able to do this in collaboration with the National Museum of Ireland.

Dr Nora McGarry was our chosen person to feature in Our Irish Women. This exhibition was on display both in the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life  and also travelled to our local community centre in Milltown.

Thanks to the National Museum of Ireland for their continuous support.

  • A loving, caring and a truly vocationed GP for all here in Milltown and beyond mid Connacht. Many’s the stitch Nora put in bloodied heads and hands in before and after match parish battles. My mother and Nora were great pals and as children she’d always greet kiddies with a huge smile and kind words …… long forgotten and forgiven would the child memory’s of injections be . Her legacy of care lives on even today , and as I see her once bussling busy surgery being raised to the ground I’m reminded that even in its passing it brings a promise of a safer n17 carriageway, northbound out of Milltown.
Solas na bhfleidhas ata agat Dr Nora.
