Our Milltown Women

Our Irish Women is an online project and exhibition recognising the achievements of Irish women, especially those whose stories have yet to be told.

In 1918, the right to vote was extended to include women over 30 years old, and who held property valued at £5. It would be another 10 years before the franchise was extended to all women over 21 years.

To commemorate this centenary and the vital contribution of women to Irish life and society, we are looking for your stories of Irish women who you feel have made a difference in your community: stories of success, struggle, or of quiet diligence.

The Our Irish Women exhibition opened at the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life, County Mayo in October 2018, and will feature women’s stories from across the Irish Community Archive Network (iCAN).
