Poetic Works from Milltown and Belmont Schools

Poetic works

A Poetry Ireland collaboration celebrating National Poetry Day 2019

To mark National Poetry Day on Friday 30th April, the Milltown Heritage Website launches the poetic works of local children attending Milltown and Belmont schools. The pupils have worked on their creations over the course of 2019 with professional poet Pete Mollineaux. The staff and pupils collaborated with Pete to explore The Bardic Tradition historically associated with Scoill filíochta Uí hUigínn located in Kilclooney, Milltown. They wrote and performed their own pieces for the local community and the teachers organised a recording of same. The project was carried out in conjunction with Poetry Ireland, who funded Pete’s residency in the schools. We hope you enjoy them and we encourage you to share them on social media for others to hear and enjoy. Poetry Ireland publicised this event as part of their calendar of events to celebrate National Poetry Day in Ireland.
