Sergeant James Murren

The Irish War of Independence

Virtual Recording by Pauline Connolly 27th February 2021

In June 1921, the local IRA company in Milltown launched an attack on a RIC battalion. The ambush took place in Banagher, on the Milltown side of the junction leading to Kilconly. There were 2 casualties on the RIC side, one of which was Sergeant James Murren.
James’s grand-nephew Larry Morrison came to Milltown some years ago to visit the spot where his relative died. 100 years on from the ambush, we chatted with Larry Morrison regarding his research.
