Milltown's Natural Heritage, Co Galway
Milltown Heritage is currently taking part in a collaborative research project with the Natural Heritage Project, in partnership with Adriana, a postgraduate research fellow at the National Museum of Ireland – Natural History, Milltown National School and Belmont National School.
Explore our online archive for local wildlife from lizards to bats with live footage, children’s art, poetry, and short films celebrating Milltown’s natural world. We have revisited the 1930s Schools' Folklore Collection and stories of battling giants, a hilltop ash, Belmont House, the ancient hillfort, and local families like the Blakes and Birminghams.
Many thanks to Belmont and Milltown National schools for participating in this project.
The final results forms part of the co-curated Our Irish Natural History exhibition in the Dead Zoo lab, National Museum of Ireland-Collins Barracks, shining a light on how nature and culture are deeply intertwined.
