As we look forward to the release of the 1926 Census, the children of Milltown National School took a step back in time to explore the town’s businesses through the 1901 and 1911 census.
They researched familiar landmarks such as Glynns, Sheridans, Ryans, Mullarkeys, the Post Office and Garda Station, as well as businesses no longer in use like Grogans and Flannersys. Using the Milltown Heritage website alongside the National Archives, they uncovered family stories, local connections, and insights into life in the early 20th century.
They also explored Gilmore’s 1950s film footage of Milltown, recognising names and faces linked to the families they had been researching.
The children brought their work together in a wonderful photo story, highlighting both the changes in Milltown and the continuity of families and community over time.
