MHG

Traditionally, rural Irish cottages had hearths which were used to both heat the home and for cooking purposes. An iron frame known as a crane which had a swinging arm would be attached to one of the fireplace walls. The arm was designed for hanging utensils and would be swung out and over the fire for cooking.
