There are three pieces in this collection: a sugar bowl, soup bowl and dinner plate all bearing the monogram G. The pieces are part of a set presented when Father Begley was ordained.
Hexagonal sugar bowl with lid
The cream-coloured bowl is six-sided with worn gold decoration on the handles and lid. Two of the six panels bear a multi-coloured floral design with a green letter G at its centre. A thin green line is painted on the lid and around the middle of the bowl. The base of the bowl is stamped in green with the maker’s mark (which is not wholly clear (C. CO.)) and the name of the range, Martha Washington and the pattern number 5A. The bowl is heavily crazed and the inner rim is chipped in three places.
Soup bowl
The cream-coloured bowl has a multi-coloured floral design at the front and back. One of these has a green letter G at its centre. A thin green line is painted around the inside rim. The base of the bowl is stamped in green with the maker’s mark (which is not wholly clear (C. CO.)) and the name of the range, Martha Washington and the pattern number 5A. The bowl is heavily crazed and is also cracked in two places.
Octagonal dinner plate
The cream-coloured plate has a multi-coloured design at the top and bottom. One of these has a green letter G at its centre. A thin green line is painted around the inside circular base of the plate. The base of the bowl is stamped in green with the maker’s mark (which is not wholly clear (C. CO.)) and the name of the range, Martha Washington and the pattern number 5A. The plate is heavily crazed.
