This is my nannie’s brown bread. She got the recipe from her mum. Nowadays we have brown bread every day.
- 3 cups of plain flour
- 1 cup of bran
- ¼ teaspoon of salt
- 1 oz of butter
- ½ teaspoon of bread soda
- Teaspoon of sugar
- ¼ of a pint of butter milk
- ½ of a pint of milk
- 1 egg
- 1 spoon of olive oil
Sieve flour, salt, sugar and soda into a bowl.
Add the bran, rub in the butter and mix well together.
Put the buttermilk, milk, egg and olive oil into a jug, mix it.
Then, knead for a few minutes.
Put into a warm loaf tin.
Cut a cross on top and put into a hot oven.
